Walker Filtration celebrate ‘World Day for Safety & Health at Work' 2022
Posted on May 13th, 2022
On Thursday, April 28th, ‘The World Day for Safety and Health at Work’ took place across the globe. It aims to raise awareness towards the prevention of occupational accidents and the importance of health and safety in the workplace. While health and safety are already a top priority for Walker Filtration, celebrating this day helps us bring even more awareness to safety in the workplace, and the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle.
As part of our celebrations Walker Filtration offered a free ‘Health MOT’ for all its employees at their UK Headquarters in Washington, Tyne & Wear. Helping to bring more attention to the benefits of healthy lifestyle habits, health check are administered by experienced health professionals. They consist of eight medical and non-invasive tests to give a current health and wellbeing overview for the employees, followed by health advice from the consultant. Made available to all Walker Filtration employees, the ‘Health MOT’s’ will take place over a 4-week period due to such a high uptake.
Checks include:
- Cholesterol
- Blood Pressure
- BMI
- Eyesight
The tests will help to identify individuals who may be deemed at ‘higher-risk’ of developing cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease, and even various forms of dementia for individuals over the age of 65. All health MOTs are followed by a consultation regarding the results, and lifestyle changes that can be made to help prevent against these diseases.
Daniel Smith had this to say about his Health MOT, “The tests included height, weight, eyesight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and urine, to determine that my health was normal for my age. The test results showed that everything checked was ok and that I’m still in good working order at present (thankfully!!).”
In addition to the health MOTs, Walker Filtration also held ‘An introduction to Hazard Identification Seminar’, that was available for all UK employees. It comprised of a presentation on risk observations and near misses that can occur in the workplace, followed by a risk identification competition where employees had the chance to win a £50 Amazon Gift Voucher for spotting all the health and safety risks presented. Three vouchers were presented to the winners.
Finally, back due to popular demand, the Smoothie Bike Challenge was available again this year for all employees who wanted to take part. Two participants at a time competed to see who could pedal the furthest distance in 30 seconds on an exercise bike. During which their pedal power was also blending a nutritious fruit smoothie for them to enjoy. The three employees who travelled the furthest distance were presented a prize. First place received a brand new Nutribullet, the runner-up received a £40 Amazon Voucher, and third place won a £20 Amazon Voucher.
Thank you to all those who participated and helped to make this a successful celebration of health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
